KVK, WEST GARO HILLS, TURA CELEBRATES WORLD SOIL HEALTH DAY CUM RABI KISAN SAMMELAN -2016.
World Soil Health Day cum Rabi Kisan Sammelan was celebrated by KVK, ICAR, West Garo Hills on 5th December, 2016 in collaboration with District Agriculture Office, Tura at Research Office, Sangsanggre, Tura. A total number of 123 farmers from different villages and districts of Garo Hills attended the programme. Shri J.R.Sangma, Joint Director of Agriculture, Garo Hills, Tura welcome the chief guest, officers and the farmers attending the programme. Shri Pravin Bhakshi, Hon’ble Deputy Commisioner of West Garo Hills, Tura graced the programme as chief guest. He encouraged the farmers to take the opportunity to bring the technology in their field for better production and self-sufficiency of food in their own village. He also added that focused on improving good quality soil and fertilizer retention capacity of a soil should be identified by the farmers through soil testing. Shri C.K.Marak, DAO, West Garo Hills, Tura stressed upon the importance of NPK and micronutrients available in soil. He further added that for achieving sustainability in agriculture and improving livelihood, the local farmers should test their farm soils and receive soil health cards from different agriculture organizations. Shri C.R.Marak, DAO, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar expressed the importance of Soil Health Card and also shared that forest should not be destroyed as it leads to imbalance in fertility of soil. Dr. Tanmay Samajdar, Programme Coordinator, KVK, ICAR, Tura focused on importance of pulses which makes the soil fertile by fixing the atmospheric Nitrogen. He discussed about the package of practices and disease pest management about the major Rabi crops in Garo Hills. A total number of 30 Soil Health Cards were distributed to the farmers present in the programme and another 270 cards were given to them for distribution to their neighbouring farmers. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Shri S.N.Marak, RO,Tura.
After the inaugural programme, the dignitaries and the farmers visited the exhibition put up by the KVK, ICAR, Tura.
